Packing for a trip to a completely new place is always a trap. You may easily either over-pack or miss some important items, which is only realized when you’re already on the trip. Cruising in Halong Bay for 3D2N doesn’t need much, but there should be some notes if you don’t want to feel like lacking something once you’re on board.
These are what we would put in our suitcase for a summer vacation on The Au Co for 3 days 2 nights:
One word for clothes: COMFORTABLE! Vietnam summer is typical for a tropical country, with high degree and humidity. T-shirts and shorts are advisable, and light dress for girls. The heat might get severe at some points and you may need at least 3 sets of clothes to change throughout the day. At least one pair of sport shoes and flipflop shoule be included, you will not want some sands getting into your shoes after a short walk on the beach
The Au Co’s itinerary is among one of the most interesting among cruise operators in Halong Bay with diversity of sightseeing, cultural and sport activities. Prepare at least 1 swim suit for kayaking and swimming in the beach and 1 set of sport clothes for an adventurous biking tour in Cat Ba Island. Although it’s summer, be aware that the atmosphere might get a bit chill after sunset, so a light jacket or cardigan and scarf would be advised if you want to spend some fun time in the sundeck or balcony.
Accessories and cosmetics
Even if you don’t have the habit of using cosmetics daily, some kinds of cosmetics should still be on your must-have list when traveling to Halong Bay in the summer. Sunscreen above 30 SPF is a must to protect your skin from the original strong sunlight in Vietnam. Also, trekking in the nature of Viet Hai Village might give you some unexpected guests such as bugs, mosquitos,… (which is completely normal in a humid tropical country). Therefore, bring along an insect repellent and apply before your trekking trip.
A first aid kit is not really necessary since the crew on board always has them available anytime you need. One staff often bring along a basic kit whenever you leave boat for activities.
Some books for your companion
Cruising basically means relaxing. Despite the well-organized cruise itinerary has lots of funs to take part in, you can always choose to stay on board for more private time. The fresh atmosphere, quietness and breath-taking scenery of nature is the perfect background for a little reading, writing and sunbathing. Bring along one favorite book that you haven’t yet got time to read, a couple of your favorite magazines or you may just enjoy whatever available in The Au Co’s library on the 1st floor.
